Nsubane is a small, rural community with a population of about 300 people
in southeastern Swaziland in Southern Africa.
Despite being devastated by drought, unemployment, and
HIV, one local group, Sibane seNsubane ("The Light
of Nsubane") is determined to improve the quality
of life for the members of their community. This
group hopes to start a garden project whereby
vegetables could be be grown and sold in local
markets. With their ideal soil and climate, the
largest barrier is water. |

The Bemidji Rotary Club has agreed to donate the initial
funds toward the well and garden project. With
possible matching funds from our Rotary District and Rotary
International, combined with the hard work of the
group members and a local Rotary Club, the dream of
fresh water and a bountiful vegetable garden could
become a reality.

The Bemidji Rotary Club would like to thank Tessa Reff
for presenting this opportunity to us. Tessa,
daughter of Bemidji Rotarian John Reff, is the Peace
Corps volunteer in Nsubane coordinating the project.
